ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

WHAT IS THE NJO?

The New Jersey Open launched in 2018 as the first sanctioned pickleball tournament in the state of NJ. The sellout event proved that pickleball is growing and alive in the Garden State, and is ready to bring professional exposure to the fastest growing sport in the USA. Players from throughout the Northeast come to NJ to compete against the area's best players in a variety of skill and age divisions for men, women, and juniors in both singles and doubles competition events.

In 2021, for the first time we will be partnering with the APP to bring $25k in prize money and the first ever professional pickleball tournament for the Garden State!

What is pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis, played with a wiffle ball and a net. The sport was invented in the mid 1960's and is now the fastest growing sport in America. The court is similar in size to a badminton or racquetball court, lined similar to a tennis court, and features a non volley zone, called the "kitchen" on either side of the net. The sport is popular with players of all ages, from junior through senior citizen, and can be played with 2 or 4 players.
